What we collect, and why

Information you give us

APPA works without an account. If you don’t sign in, the content you create stays on your device and we don’t receive it. What follows covers optional sign-in, analytics, and premium features.

Some of this content can be personal and introspective. We treat it accordingly. We don’t sell it, use it for advertising, or build a profile of you from it.

Information we collect automatically

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or device advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising trackers.

How your information is used

We use the information above to:

Insights (premium feature)

If you’re a premium subscriber, APPA generates written “Insights” of your reflection and activity trends. This runs automatically in our backend.

To produce these summaries, relevant content is sent to a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) to generate the text. We do not send your name or email to the AI provider.

Under OpenAI’s API terms, content sent this way is not used to train their models, and it is retained by OpenAI for a limited period (up to 30 days) only to monitor for abuse, after which it is deleted.

The service providers we use

We rely on a small number of third parties to run APPA.

ProviderWhat it does
SupabaseHosting, database, authentication

Our hosting (Supabase) and analytics (PostHog) providers store and process data on servers in the United States. If you use APPA from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US.

Payments

Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Those payments are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms — we never receive or store your credit card number.

Data storage and retention

APPA is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 years old to use it. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has given us their information, email hi@justanotter.day and we’ll delete it.

No matter where you live, you can:

If you’re in California (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it (this policy describes that), the right to access and delete it, and the right to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your rights, email hi@justanotter.day.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this policy, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top. We encourage you to review this page from time to time. Your continued use of APPA after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
